Boxed
78 minutes
Northern Ireland. Today.
An IRA cell holds a suspected informer who claims to be innocent.
On the scene are two Catholic priests: one "tame", one not.
A powerfully gripping drama, Boxed is inspired by yet another controversy swirling around the
Catholic Church. According to published reports, the IRA, when preparing to execute an
informer, calls on certain priests -- tame priests -- who are willing to secretly provide last rites.
Boxed is the fictional story of what happens when they get the wrong priest.
Father Brendan, a young, idealistic priest, is new to his parish. A teenaged IRA operative picks
him up outside his church, mistaking him for Father Moran, Brendan's older, war-weary superior.
Brendan -- the "wrong" priest -- is driven to an isolated cottage where members of an IRA
execution squad expect him to take a last confession from a suspected informer whom they plan
to kill. When Brendan refuses to co-operate, a riveting, emotional drama unfolds, with challenges
to each character's motives and faith.
A series of surprising revelations keep the scenario twisting at a break-neck pace. Meanwhile, an
escalating level of violence amps up the intensity. The ultimate confrontations between religion
and politics; between the IRA and the army; and between Fathers Brendan and Moran, result in an
unpredictable and shocking outcome.
Boxed features an outstanding cast led by Tony-winner Tom Jordan Murphy.
