Pop Twist Entertainment Takes on 'Boxed'For Immediate Release January 15, 2003 Subject: POP TWIST ENTERTAINMENT TAKES ON 'BOXED' "Boxed", the controversial feature that is currently an audience favorite at the Palms Springs International Film Festival, has been taken on for worldwide sales representation by Los Angeles-based Pop Twist Entertainment, Inc. Says Pop Twist founder and president, Doug Zwick, "We're thrilled to be handling worldwide rights on this powerful drama. It's an explosive story about a highly charged subject, beautifully realized, and it's already having a real emotional impact on audiences". Zwick will be in Park City during the Sundance Festival talking to film distributors. The 78-minute Irish/UK feature has turned into a substantial hit at the Palm Springs festival, with a near-capacity crowd for its initial screening, and widespread buzz preceding its scheduled second showing this evening. Set in Northern Ireland today, "Boxed" centers on an IRA cell that is holding a suspected informer. They plan to bring in an accommodating priest—a "tame" priest—to secretly provide last rites before they execute the suspect. Inspired by published reports, "Boxed" is the fictional story of what happens when they inadvertently bring in the wrong priest. Father Brendan, a young idealist (Tony-winner Tom Jordan Murphy), refuses to co-operate, and a riveting drama unfolds with challenges to each character's motives and faith. The violence and emotional intensity escalate as religion and politics collide. The Los Angeles Times quoted a festival veteran who saw "Boxed" as this year's outstanding offering, saying, "It was extraordinarily well-done, artistically. Fantastic, philosophically. The whole issue [film-maker Marion Comer is] pursuing is, 'When is violence justified when it's in a just cause?' That kind of film needs distribution". "Boxed" is written and directed by Marion Comer, produced by Laurence Penn, Lene Bausager, and Douglas Graham and executive produced by Robert Medema. It is a Fireproof Films Ltd. Production in association with Ugly Duckling Films, with the support of the Irish Film Board. Pop Twist Entertainment, Inc. represents and executive produces a range of films and television programs, including the recently completed feature documentary "The Twilight Hour: Visions of Ireland's Haunted Past". At Slamdance, The company is launching sales for "In Smog and Thunder", a mockumentary about the recent California Civil War. Pop Twist set up "If I Should Fall From Grace: The Shane MacGowan Story" with a March 17 premiere on The Sundance Channel and subsequent worldwide DVD release.
