A Tribute to Music In the Schools
Motown High follows a group of talented teenagers from Victoria, BC's Vic High R&B Band. This in-school
R&B band travels to Detroit to perform for the students of Detroit's Northwestern High School. The concert
is a huge success and is attended by Martha Reeves, of Dancing in the Streets fame!
Martha loves the band and is thrilled by their dedication to the Motown Sound, and by their overall musicianship. Months later, she invites them to be her back-up band when she headlines the
Victoria JazzFest International. She and her musical director, Alonza McKenzie, come to town a few days early. We get an inside view as they and Band Director Eric Emde, who designed the whole R&B program, mentor the kids to get them ready for the event. The film ends on a triumphant
note as the kids pull off the concert of their lifetimes!
